The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is studying Selangor Menteri Besar's political secretary Faekah Husin’s admission that she had sent a letter to a GLC for it to consider making her niece's law firm its legal panel.

MACC deputy commissioner (operation) Mohd Shukri Abdull told reporters in Kota Bharu yesterday that the commission is studying the role played by Faekah, but an official investigation has yet to be initiated.

"If it was only the letter, it is not an offence under the MACC, but if she herself sat on the board that decided and appointed her relatives, only then it is an offence under our laws; if there is abuse of power," Malay daily Sinar Harian quoted him saying.

He said the MACC cannot comment further on the matter as they are still in the process of obtaining verification.

Last week Faekah admitted that she had sent a few letters from various law firms seeking appointment as the legal firm for the state-owned Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd, including one belonging to her niece.

The letter written on the Selangor MB's Office letterhead read, "The administration is of the view that (the law firm) should be given a chance as long as it does not contravene any company regulations."

Faekah had defended her actions saying, "The letter shows transparency has been practised in our administration.”
