Mahathir, a 'less false' democracy is still false
YOURSAY 'In short, what Mahathir means is that we lie about our democracy but US lies a bit more. The sad truth is that there is only one class of liars.'
Dr M: Our democracy less false than US
Anonymous_3f4a:
A false democrat is a false democrat regardless of the degree of falsity.
The question still remains, would Prime Minister Najib Razak accept the people's verdict and hand over power in the event of an Umno defeat?
Sadly, to date Najib refuses to give a clear and unequivocal answer publicly.
Tan Teng Wah: In short, what former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad means is that we lie about our democracy but United States lies a bit more. But the sad truth is that there is only one class of liars.
Chks: This is a red herring from Mahathir. Rather than facing the issue squarely, he diverted the attention on the US. What has US has got to do with the claim that the Malaysian PM is a false democrat?
The democracy referred to in the article by Mark Mackinnon is about giving the true privilege to its citizens to choose their own government, and for the present government to willingly and sincerely hand over the levers of power to the eventual winner, and it has nothing to do with foreign policy.
As Malaysians we are not so much concerned about US policy than our rights to really choose our leaders.
Mahathir, if you want to comment, please stick to the issue at hand, and rebut why you think Mackinnon is wrong in labelling Malaysia as a false democracy. Don't talk about US policy.
Justice Kini: Mahathir, the writer was from Canada, so why are you harping on the wrong horse?
Nobody has forgotten how it is alleged you had paid US$1 million for a couple of minutes with a former US president.
Survivor: Dictators and/or authoritarian regimes are those who often rule by threats and abuses. It is their mode of survival.
If given the choice, however false, the democracy as depicted by Mahathir, it is still better of than an authoritarian regime.
The problem with authoritarian rulers lie in their taste of power. No authoritarian would give up power easily.
Democracy, if practice correctly, is power of the people. The ruler whom the people choose is suppose to be by the people and for the people.
Indeed who would want to choose a regime that is against the people?
Alzhsh: Mahathir, if all homo sapiens were to turn into LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender), they will still find ways to have children as long as their reproductive system is still functioning.
To have the whole so-called straight population turning into LGBTs is as impossible as having one single religion on Earth. Why theorise on such impossibility? Clearly, senility had taken its toll on him.
Fair&Just: In this modern era where calibre and qualifications of persons of renown capabilities like the Canadian journalist and the newspaper he is working for is undeniable; Mahathir is however like a whining schoolboy denied his infantile yearning for egoistic recognition.
Tekee: Sophistry is a deliberately invalid argument displaying ingenuity in reasoning in the hope of deceiving someone. And Mahathir has forever been using it since day one of his political career.
YF : When people get older they repent for their past mistakes. Mahathir does the opposite. The older he gets, the more vile he becomes.
Dr M tells settlers not to make quick buck from FGV
Democrat: I am surprised that the settlers are given only 800 units each. They have to have a minimum of 1,000 units (1 lot) in order to sell.
What's going on here? Why give an amount that is not tradable? Can Felda or any Umno lackey explain this please?
Anonymous #03913649: You can still can sell 800 units in Bursa Malaysia but BN has insulted the majority Malays in Felda by only giving a pittance. That shows Umno does not care about the Malays.
Anonymous #43051382 : Now shares are tradable in lots of 100 units per lot. However, comparing the world market indices to our Bursa, I say the Bursa is at an artificial all-time high given the fact that all world market indices are about 30 percent lower.
So who is buying into a market that sees no big potential upside?
I think only 1Funny Malaysia GLCs (government-linked companies) and 1Funny Malaysia public savings funds will buy into FGV under such market conditions, and most probably by force.
Anonymous #19719160 : Mahathir is suggesting that the settlers should hold the shares until all the BN cronies have made big bucks.
