The government will spend about RM115 million to maintain the country's administrative capital Putrajaya, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Federal Territories Minister Mohd Isa Abdul Samad said this includes the cost of managing federal government complexes, infrastructure, other buildings and recreation areas.

In a parliamentary written reply to Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (Keadilan-Permatang Pauh), he said the management costs for Putrajaya will change over time as more government buildings near completion.

Mohd Isa said RM87 million of the allocation would be utilised by Perbadanan Putrajaya for the overall management cost of Putrajaya city, while the balance will go towards the management of government buildings.

Perbadanan Putrajaya, a corporate body, is the local authority which administers and manages Putrajaya city under the Perbadanan Putrajaya Act 1995.

The first phase in the construction of Putrajaya started in 1996 and was completed in 2000. It is now in the second phase of development, which is expected to be completed next year.

Two weeks ago, Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang said the government had no means of recovering the sum of about RM25 billion channelled towards the development of Putrajaya.

He also called for Putrajaya Holdings, the lead developer, to be placed under the purview and scrutiny of Parliament.

The major stakeholders in Putrajaya Holdings are state-controlled oil giant Petronas, Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Kumpulan Wang Amanah Negara - an oil reserve fund set up in the late 1980s.
