The rector of Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin), Prof Dr Jamil Osman need not resign as the college is not facing any problem, said Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak.

On the other hand, he said, the issue that had cropped up was deliberately raised as the general election was just ‘around the corner’.

“There is no problem with Kuin. Everything is okay. It’s normal because the election is fast approaching, that's why the issue cropped up,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting in Alor Setar today.

He said this when asked to comment on the call by a group of 200 employees of Kuin yesterday that Jamil resign for failing to look after the welfare of the staff and students of the college.

Commenting further, Azizan said Jamil had taken up the post after the latter was offered by him to assist in the development of the college.

Asked whether the group who had protested would face disciplinary action, Azizan said they had the right to voice their dissatisfaction.

Meanwhile, Jamil, when met at a separate function, pointed out that he would not resign as long as the menteri besar did not ask for his resignation.

“If the MB (menteri besar) advises me to resign, I will do so today,” he said, adding that his appointment in 2008 was made by Azizan as the chairperson of the Kuin board of directors.

Jamil, who is also a member of the board of directors of the college, said all decisions made by Kuin were the decisions of the board of directors and not his own decision.
