Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom today criticised a supermarket in the federal capital for using a ‘Ramadan Sale’ sign to promote a liquor sale at its outlet.

He said although there was no ‘halal’ logo at the outlet, it was inappropriate to use the ‘Ramadan Sale’ promotion to sell liquor.

beer in ramadan sale Speaking at a media conference after giving a keynote address to staff of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) in Kuala Lumpur today, he said action could be taken against the premises concerned.

Jamil Khir said this when asked to comment on a posting of pictures in the Internet on a ‘Ramadan Sale’ sale promotion by a supermarket and the product on offer was liquor.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Halal Hub Division of the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) had visited the premises yesterday and the ‘Ramadan Sale’ notice had been brought down.

In another development, Jamil Khir said the proposal to upgrade the mufti post to the level of a state executive councillor would be carried out after getting the consent of the rulers and the yang di-pertua negeri in the respective states.

Last April, Jamil Khir proposed that the post of the state deputy mufti be upgraded to Grade S54 from the current Grade S44, S48 and S52, depending on the states.
