Utusan Malaysia has admitted to mistakenly alleging DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang was once the press secretary to former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.

In the 'Bisik-bisik' column found in Utusan's Sunday edition, the newspaper revealed Lim had clarified he only worked in a press section under a Singapore government ministry.

"The mistake was made because of the writings of various parties before this including sources online, which stated Lim used to hold that position," said Awang Selamat, a pen name for the newspaper's senior editorial staff.

However, Awang Selamat added the mistake, in last week's column, was only a minor matter and maintained the issue of a historical and sentimental relationship between DAP and Singapore's People's Action Party (PAP) cannot be denied.

Last week, the Umno-owned newspaper had accused PAP of attempting to mastermind the downfall of BN through DAP.

Today's article continued to slam Singapore diplomats for supposedly making provocations, and the Singapore media for allegedly insulting Malaysia.

"DAP will not issue a statement strongly condemning Singapore, so Awang Selamat must voice out to protect the sovereignty and dignity of the country," said the editorial.

Awang Selamat also alluded to a picture of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng published by Guang Ming Daily showing him with a plaster on his forehead.

The article went on to report that Lim's former staff member has refused to answer questions despite being pressed by reporters at an event this week.

The columnist claimed Lim has explained the plaster was due to him scratching too hard, and advised him to be careful in avoiding injuries "whether as a result of scratching or anything else".

Duyong state assemblyperson Gan Tian Loo had alleged during the Malacca state legislative assembly that the DAP secretary-general had had an affair with his former staff member.

Lim has denied the allegations, and challenged Gan to repeat them outside the state assembly to allow him and his wife to take legal action for defamation.
