The problems faced by Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) are getting worse and could affect enrolment of students in the long term, thus creating financial chaos to the university.   

The concern was voiced out by Kedah opposition leader Mahdzir Khalid, who perceived the reports and demonstrations made by the university staff as an unfavourable condition to the university.

“This is a serious issue and needs to be handled immediately... It shows that the university has problems in its management, if the problems persist, it will give a negative impression to the public.

“And it is possible that fewer students would enrol in the state-owned university which would make it difficult for the university to repay the bank loan they made for the construction of the university's permanent campus,” he told reporters in Kuala Nerang today.

In another development, Mahdzir, who is also the chairperson of the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada), regrets the decision by the state government to set up a community farm by cutting down timber, without consulting them on the matter.

“It has a good intention, but the planning and location of the farm is illogical. The place where they set up the farm in Kampung Charuk Batang Padi is located next to the Pedu Lake which is used for ecosystem conservation.

“They don’t have any environmental assessment letter and did not even send any letter to us. They should have asked us first,” he said.

He said, the area is also a water catchment area and if the project is continued it will have implications on the environment and the residents around the area.
