Police confirmed that Khalil Afandi Hamid and a woman who went amok wielding samurai swords at the entrance of the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya on Monday, had acted on his own and had no connection with any deviant religious group.

“The investigation so far, found that be had acted on his own and claimed himself to be the messiah, Imam Mahadi, and there was no involvement of any deviant religious group,” said Kuala Lumpur CID chief Ku Chin Wah when contacted.

However, following the incident, a 39-year-old man is being remanded until this Sunday to assist in the police investigation, as he is believed to be Khalil Afandi’s online chat friend who allegedly supported the amok man’s religious views.

On Monday at about 2.30pm, Khalil Afandi 47, and his 28-year-old woman companion who were armed with two samurai swords and a meat chopper, went berserk at the entrance of Complex B of the Prime Minister’s Department.

In the incident, Khalil Afandi died while being taken to Putrajaya Hospital from gunshots fired by police, while the woman, a graduate of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa, suffered a gunshot wound in her right thigh.
