The president of the Malay Army Veterans Association (PVTM) Mohd Ali Baharom, who is more popularly known as ‘buttman’ after he conducted a butt exercise session in front of Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan’s house, has apologised to Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Mohd Ali said he regrets what he has done against the minister and hopes the apology can repair the relationship between them.

“I extend my hands to apologise for my offence and rough language. As the president, I simply brought out the voice of the grassroots members regarding their welfare.

NONE “I hope no one will question my apology and hurt my relationship with the minister and ministry,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia today.

Mohd Ali had earlier threatened to hold a protest outside the Defence Ministry on June 29 to demand better welfare for army veterans.

The protest was later postponed after Mohd Ali received an ‘sms threat’ from Zahid’s wife but Zahid (right) denied that the text message was a threat.

Mohd Ali told the Umno-owned Malay daily that he hopes the controversy raised by him can be resolved amicably for the benefit of the veterans.

“I will also meet with the minister to apologise directly to him,” he added.

He stressed that the veterans will continue to support the government’s efforts in helping the people, compared to the opposition which has failed to fulfill their promises.
