Kuala Selangor District Council chief Noraini Roslan has described a directive in a cineplex banning non-married couples from sitting together as merely a "reminder".

azlan According to a Sin Chew Daily report, she said the local council did not mean to take action against offenders, so patrons need not lose sleep over the matter.

"We discussed the issue in the council for about two months, and brought it up at a full board meeting to get feedback.

"Due to objections raised recently, the council will raise the matter again at the full board meeting end of the month, to discuss the matter in depth."

Noraini said this yesterday after attending a Selangor government function.

It was reported that Lotus Five Star, the only cinema in Kuala Selangor, had put up notices informing unmarried Muslim couples about the ban on their sitting together.

NONE According to Noraini, the local council received complaints from parents and the notice was issued to remind Muslims to adhere to Islamic teachings.

Meanwhile, Selangor exco member in charge of local councils Ronnie Liu ( left ) said he had instructed the Kuala Selangor local council to withdraw the notice.

"The Kuala Selangor council made the decision without informing the state government. This is against state government policy.'

He said very often the local councils arrived at controversial decisions without informing the state government which had to bear the blame instead.
