MCA has initiated investigations into its members who allegedly tried to sabotage the party during the March 21 general election, said its disciplinary committee chairperson Chan Kong Choy today.

Chan, who is also party deputy president, said the committee will complete its hearing into the 11 reported cases by this evening.

"We have asked the complainants to attend today's hearing, so most of the complainants attended and presented their cases to us with evidence to substantiate and support their cases," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .

"We will also be calling the accused to present their cases as it is only fair to give them an opportunity to be heard before we make any decision," he added.

Chan said once all the 11 cases have been heard, the committee would make the necessary recommendations to the presidential council for the final decision, in accordance with the party's constitution.

He also mentioned that one of the accused had resigned from the party but the committee was still waiting for further details on the resignation.

Asked what the common complaints were, he replied: "Sabotaging our candidates during the general election in one way or another but of course, let us listen to the accused before we make any recommendations."

Election petitions

In another development, the Kuala Terengganu High Court will hear the notices of motion to strike out the election petitions filed by both the Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS on July 4.

Justice Azmel Ma'moor, Heliliah Mohd Yusof and Sulaiman Daud fixed the date in chambers today.

On May 30, the BN filed a notice of motion to strike out the petitions filed by PAS against it in eight constituencies which it won in the general election.

The High Court then had set hearing for June 21 and 22 but it was postponed to July 4 today.

PAS meanwhile also filed a similar notice against the BN's election petition which was filed on June 6 for the Rhu Rendang seat won by PAS.
