A policeman fell to his death today from a 60m-high communications tower in the compound of the Sepang district police headquarters, Sepang police chief DSP Zaldino Zaludin said.

Constable Mohd Urin Subaiton, 27, who was with the Sungai Buloh police station, was attending a course at the police headquarters, he said.

Zaldino told a news conference that Mohd Urin requested to go to the toilet at about 10 am, but his course mates spotted him climbing the tower.

They tried to persuade him to come down but the constable, who hailed from Semporna, Sabah, and had joined the force two years ago, removed his shoes and socks and then fell to the ground, he said.

Mohd Urin died on the spot from injuries to the head and legs, he said, adding that the body was sent to Serdang Hospital.

Zaldino said preliminary investigation showed that Mohd Urin had been in a state of depression lately.
