Muslims in Malaysia will begin the Ramadan fast on Saturday.

The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, announced tonight that the date for the beginning of the fast for states in Malaysia had been set for Saturday, July 21, as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after getting the consent of the Rulers.  

The announcement was carried live over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

The Conference of Rulers had concurred that the method of setting the date for the beginning of the fast is based on the sighting of the moon and mathematical calculation.
