'Mukhriz for MB' should BN win back Kedah

your say Cloudnine: This is another of former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's ploys. Now he is trying to promote his own son.

You think he cares about getting the better man for the job as Kedah MB. There seem to be no end to Dr M's meddling. We need to get rid of Dr M's men and their influence.

Changeagent: There's no point denying Mahathir's strong influence and popularity in his home state of Kedah. Many, especially the older folks, continue to consider him as one of their own.

There is much folklore about how he used to treat the sick and poor without charging a sen before he became a federal minister. Mukhriz's support now is just a direct result of the goodwill that his old man had generated in the good old days.

Pakatan Rakyat, especially PAS would need to lift their game if they harbour any realistic hopes of retaining Kedah. Getting rid of the underperforming MB Azizan Abdul Razak might be a good place to start.

Timothy: A mandate was given by the rakyat to rule. If they fail to performed, become arrogant and if they become corrupted, then vote them out to teach them a lesson.

There are always some 'unholy angels' on both sides of the political divide. PAS central should also be decisive and not let whatever will be will be.

Wira: I hope Kedahans will make Mukhriz Mahathir the leader of the opposition in the Kedah state legislative assembly, just like we would like to make the son of another ex-PM, the leader of the opposition in Parliament.

YF: PAS never learned from their big loss in Terengganu. The rakyat gave PAS an opportunity to rule Terengganu in 1999 and they were more interested in setting up a Taliban state rather than addressing the needs of the Terengganu people.

PAS needs professionals who know how to run a state and not to run (or should I say ruin) people's lives ( haram here, haram there, haram everywhere).

Cascara: I wonder if the respondents of this Universiti Utara Malaysia survey were allowed the privilege of anonymity? If you confront them directly asking who they would vote for, what answer would you expect?

Most would fear that the study was being done by Umno and hasten to provide an answer just to satisfy them.

I am also made to understand that respondents were asked who they think would win the elections and not who they would vote for. There is a difference here.

Kheng: These Kedahans are so gullible citing reasons such as unfulfilled promises by the Pakatan government. Why don't they stop to ponder whether the past BN state government has fulfilled each and every one of their promises?

The present PAS-led state government has only been in power for one term. Admittedly, the current MB is weak but is that a good reason to give the state back to BN for them to exploit the rich timber resources of the state as in the past?

AnakBangsaMalaysia: As much as I dislike Tan Keng Liang - who is Gerakan's (marginally more intelligent) version of Chua Tee Yong, in this case it is wrong of Kedah MB Azizan to threaten to use the Official Secrets Act (OSA) against him.

The 'justification' for the OSA is to 'protect national security secrets', but the simple and open truth is that the OSA is most often used to cover up corruption instead under the Umno-BN regime.

Pakatan should not continue BN-era abuses of laws designed to suppress transparency in governance. The fact is that the Kedah state government is the most problematic of the Pakatan-run states and must be given a thorough overhaul as soon as possible.

Pakatan must face the Kedah problem head-on and do the necessary house-cleaning. PAS in particular (since they are the strongest party in Kedah Pakatan) needs to thoroughly and critically re-evaluate the state leadership.

Look to the examples of good governance practised in Penang and Selangor and emulate them.

Jalal: We are not happy with the Azizan administration. PAS will lose Kedah this time. PAS did not do a good job like Penang and Selangor. We want a people-friendly and approachable government.

If Azizan is to be the MB again, then my vote is for BN.

Racism and religious hypocrisy will go on unabated. Only a Pakatan coalition can save this country from what it has become, with cronies and rent-seekers destroying the very fabric of our multi-racial and multi-religious society.

We are terribly in debt and may even face bankruptcy soon.
