Penang policemen to don lighted jackets at night
Policemen in Penang will became the first group in the police force to don lighted jackets when conducting night patrols.
Policemen in Penang will became the first group in the police force to don lighted jackets when conducting night patrols.
Penang deputy police chief SAC Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the jackets would clearly indicate the presence of police at public places and at the same time give added confidence to people to feel more secure while walking at night.
“Five flash LED lights are installed on each jacket so that people can see the blue lights glittering,” he told Bernama in George Town today.
Abdul Rahim said so far the lighted jackets were limited to policemen on duty on the island and would be expanded to those on the mainland soon.
“Through this new approach, we hope to further reduce the crime rate in the state,” he said.
