MCA and Gerakan have no right to attack the DAP, given their silence when certain Umno leaders recently showed interest in implementing the hudud among non-Muslims.

In this regard, Lim Guan Eng pointed out that Umno is “more extreme” than PAS, which only wants the hudud for Muslims.

NONE "I do not see top Gerakan leaders attacking Umno leaders or MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek using the same remark of ‘political eunuchs’ on Umno,"said Lim in a statement.

"Why haven't MCA or Gerakan left BN because of Umno leaders’ open support for the hudud for all?”

Lim, the DAP secretary-general, was responding to state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow's call to the party to respond to PAS’ insistence on bringing in hudud law should Pakatan Rakyat assume federal power.

MCA and Gerakan have continued their "irresponsible, dishonest and untruthful" attacks on DAP, Lim said, noting that these personal attacks show their desperation to revive lost popular support.

Lim reiterated that the DAP does not support the implementation of an Islamic state in Malaysia or imposition of the hudud by PAS.

"Despite the difference (in opinion on this), both DAP and PAS have a common stand in fighting corruption and abuse of power, as well as on integrity in leadership focusing on competency, accountability and transparency," said Lim.

"We (also) agree on a welfare state to protect the poor, destitute, sick and those who need help."

He pointed out that Pakatan’s common policy framework - as stated in the Buku Jingga - makes no mention of implementing an Islamic state or hudud law in any future Pakatan federal government.
