The Malaysian High Commission in Singapore said it issued a passport to P Waythamoorthy yesterday, which was processed through standard procedures.

The issuance of a passport to him was consonant with the Malaysian constitution.

It was reported earlier that Waythamoorty, chairperson of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) had secured his passport via the Malaysian diplomatic mission in Singapore, and was set to return, via Johor Baru tomorrow.

The Malaysian High Commissioner in this republic, Md Hussin Nayan, said: “Basically, he is a Malaysian who came to the high commission to apply for a passport.

“We checked with the relevant authorities and we obtained approval and issued him the passport,” he told Bernama in Singapore today.

Waythamoorty left Malaysia in 2007 nto avoid being detained under the Internal Security Act.

His passport was revoked, a year later, and he was reported to have been living in the United Kingdom.
