Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today chaired the second meeting of the cabinet committee on the Selangor water issue at the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry.
The meeting was also attended by, among others, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Noh Omar, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.
The committee is tasked with looking into the issues related to the water supply service industry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya and set priorities for their resolution.
It will also evaluate the recommendations and proposals submitted by the secretariat or committee members and decide on the solution of water issues in Selangor and report the decisions to the cabinet.
Muhyiddin had chaired the first meeting of the committee on July 23, after which he said the federal government had rejected the proposal by the Selangor government to take over the management of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry had announced that the federal government would implement the Langat 2 plant through open tender.
The Langat 2 plant is expected to ensure that Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will get sufficient water supply from 2014 to 2025 without the need to build additional water treatment plants.
