Cuepacs has proposed a fixed housing allowance adjustment across the board to RM450 per month and reduction of housing loan interest from four percent to one percent.

Its deputy president, Aziz Muda, said these were among 23 proposals submitted by Cuepacs to the Special Commission to Study the Transformation of the Civil Service.

“Housing allowance is given a special emphasis due to the sharp rise in house prices which has resulted in many civil servants not being able to buy houses with the salaries they are getting.

“Hence, we want the commission and the government to look into the matter comprehensively,” he told reporters after attending the enhancement of the civil service session at the Public Service Department (PSD) in Putrajaya today.

Other proposals include increasing the cost of living allowance to RM400 per month from RM150 and RM300 per month, and raising the entertainment allowance.

He hoped the proposals would be accepted and implemented next year.

“We also asked for 22 service classifications, which had been agreed upon to be upgraded (under the Public Service New Remuneration Scheme) from grade 17 to 27 involving jobs such as technician, forest ranger and agriculture assistant, to be implemented effective from Jan 1 next year,” he said.

Aziz said besides the 23 proposals, Cuepacs also raised 23 issues affecting civil servants and 24 proposals in enhancing the scheme of service to give due recognition to civil servants.

He said Cuepacs was committed in changing the perception on the quality of the civil service in the interests of the people.

 

“We assure the government that Cuepacs fully support the drastic move to improve the delivery system,” he added.
