The Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) has apologised for the temporary electricity supply disruption which affected some parts of the state today.

SEB grid system operator Yong Ying Poh said the cause of power outage had yet to be determined.

“Bakun Unit 8 tripped at 9.56am, and subsequent to that, the Bintulu Combined Cycle Plant experienced technical problem which resulted in a sudden drop in electricity load from 110MW to 47MW,” he said in a statement in Miri.

“SEB immediately initiated restoration work at 10.06am and power was fully restored at 10.59am,” he added.

A check by Bernama in Miri revealed the temporary power outage had caused a minor traffic jam at the city centre.

Nevertheless, the quick response by the traffic police helped restore the normal traffic flow within minutes.
