A number of Africans left their personal belongings behind and attempted to escape through the roof of a five-storey walk up flats when enforcement officers raided their unit in Puchong, Selangor today during an operation under the 6P programme.

During the raid, jointly carried out by the Immigration Department and the Home Ministry, a Nigerian was nearly killed when he fell on the balcony of a unit while climbing the roof.

Immigration Department Enforcement division director Mohd Zamberi Abdul Aziz said during the operation that started at 12 midnight, 116 foreigners were screened at two Apartments, namely Kekwa and Zest.

"From the 116 screened, 49 of them were detained for various offences," he told reporters here today.

Zamberi said the operation was targetted foreigners, especially Africans, because the department had received numerous complaints that the presence of foreigners, who have no regard for sensitivity of the locals, was a major problem for residents living in the flats.

“The department had received more than 1,000 complaints. The headquarters in Putrajaya also receives 50 to 100 complaints every day," he said.
