National diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg believes more divers from Malaysia will qualify for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics if the infrastructure and facilities in aquatic sports training centres are further enhanced.

The bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympics admitted that quality of training centres of countries like China was far ahead of Malaysia.

"Malaysia has 10 to 12 elite and junior divers with great potential. But for a strong team, a lot of things have to be in place," she told reporters after arriving with the national aquatics squad from London at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), here today.

As the first Malaysian woman athlete to win a medal at an Olympics games, Pandelela said she was very satisfied with the effort and hard work she put in under the guidance of coach Yang Zhuliang.

"He is the best. He once told me that he taught me because he wanted me to be among the three best divers in the Olympics. He also had guided London Olympics silver medalist Brittany Broben from Australia."

At the London Olympics which ended last Sunday, the Bidayuh lass collected 359.20 points in the 10 metre platform diving event, coming behind China's Chen Ruolin who managed to defend her title with 422.30 points while the silver medal went to Australia's Brittany Broben who garnered 366.50 points.

Pandelela said she also aimed to continue to be among the three world's best women divers at the 2016 Olympic Games.

"It's hard to win the gold as China still dominates the sport. My target is silver in Brazil but with luck, it could be gold," she said.
