Operators of most feline care centres in the federal capital can accept only between 30 and 40 felines during the Aidilfitri holidays this year.
Animal Ark Pet Centre owner, Azman Mad Dom, 40, who said his centre could accommodate up to only 40 cats at a fee of RM15 a cat per day.
“I cannot accept more than that because I only have 40 cages and also because I don’t want the owners of the feline to doubt my ability to care for their pets,” he added.
Azman said he took turns with his partner, Kamsol Masuri, 38, to care for the felined.
Another cat care centre owner, Tan Keng Hong, 40, said the centre could only take in between 20 and 30 cats and most of the cat owners who left their pets with him were his regular customers.
“For regular customers, we keep records of their cats. So, it is easier for us to care for the felined,” said the owner of Trendy Pet Sdn Bhd.
Tan said he had four workers to help him care for the cats.
“I have been in the business for five years and have not received any complaints from my customers,” said Tan who charged RM25 per day for each cat.
Meanwhile, veterinarian Ahmad Razeen Zulkifli advised cat owners to have their pets vaccinated before sending the felines to care centres.
“This is to avoid their pets from being infected with diseases from other cats at the centre,” he added.
He said they should also ensure the cat centres were clean.
