Gerard Lourdesamy: If being anti-hudud means being anti-Islam then former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa should accuse the BN of being anti-Islam as well since none of the component parties, including Umno, have endorsed the implementation of hudud.

Nasha is just playing politics using religion as a weapon to confuse Malays into supporting Umno-BN and portraying the DAP as being anti-Islam. Frankly, hudud has got nothing to do with non-Muslims and it is their right to accept or reject it. That is their opinion.

The federal constitution does not speak in terms of an Islamic state but only that Islam is the official religion. The syariah is recognised as the personal law of Muslims, but they are still subject to civil laws as well. There is no mention of the hudud.

If Umno is in favour of the hudud, it should openly endorse it and not hide behind polemics.

Bluemountains: The federal government under Dr Mahathir Mohamad prevented Kelantan from implementing hudud. But now, Mahathir is asking PAS to join Umno to implement hudud.

PAS must never allow itself to be tricked into joining Umno just because of hudud. It is just a tactic to draw PAS away from Pakatan Rakyat and not because they really wanted to implement hudud.

If they sincerely wanted to implement hudud, they wouldn't have prevented Kelantan from doing so in the first place.

Odin: Accusing someone who does not accept the hudud as anti-Islam is not logical at all. I don't accept hudud, but I am not anti-Islam. Indeed, I am not anti any religion.

I reject hudud mainly because it is archaic. Most, if not all, of the punishments stipulated might be applicable in the 7th century but not today.

Hermit: Former Selangor PAS chief Hasan Ali has shown his might with his roadshow throughout the country so that PM Najib Razak will take note of him as a winnable candidate for GE13.

Nasharudin is certainly mightier than Hasan. Unleash your power so that Najib will have another winnable candidate which Umno is desperately looking for.

Multi Racial: It is so obvious that this got nothing to do with Islam or Nasharudin defending Islam. He is carrying out Umno's agenda to provoke Muslims against DAP leader Karpal Singh.

In this case, together with Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia , Nasharudin tried to provoke Karpal to sue Utusan or himself by labeling the DAP man as anti-Islam.

By doing this, they hope it will make Muslims angry with Karpal and since Karpal represents DAP and DAP is part of Pakatan, they intended to make Muslims angry with Karpal, DAP and Pakatan.

Ask yourself, are they truly sincere about defending Islam or they are politicking? Do you think they care about Islam or more for themselves?

You should know the answer. Do not allow such leaders to divide this country for their own political gain. Believe me, your welfare is their least concern.

Survivor: YAB Karpal, remember the art of war as to what Nasharudin is doing. It will do us good to ignore him flat.

Even TDM (Mahathir) is resorting to this tactic. You should know the entrapment with your vast experience, being a veteran.

Nasha will continue to sound the gong as though he has a thousand army behind him. But if you fight him, you will be drawn into an ambush. He has nothing to lose but more to gain from this fiasco.

Nasha, my advice to you. Save your breath, friend. And you may live to fight another day.

If you say that rejecting any aspect of Islam is rejecting Islam, it means you are accusing all of us mainly non-Muslims and many Muslims themselves of rejecting islam.

Starr: Hudud is a political strategy of Umno-BN to, firstly, split the opposition alliance and, secondly, to draw PAS towards Umno in the name of Islamic unity.

In this strategy, Nasharudin is being used as a political tool of Umno strategists to wage a war between PAS and DAP on this divided, potentially damaging issue for the opposition alliance in their seemingly unstoppable march towards Putrajaya.

For Mahathir to turn around from his previous position of anti-hudud stand is testimony to his desire to see a closer cooperation between PAS and Umno in the wake of waning Malay support for Umno.

Karpal is right to reject hudud for it is not only inappropriate for a multicultural and multireligious society such as ours, but it also contravenes the constitution, which is the supreme law of the land and the founding covenant of the country.

To implement the proposal would renege on the promise of Merdeka and alter the fundamental character of the country.

Anonyxyz: The reason why MCA is not termed anti-Islam is such a clear indicator that anyone who has brains knows MCA will just follow what Umno decides.

Sad Malaysian: Nasha cannot force others to accept Islam. Just because one does not accept it 100 percent, that does not mean he's an enemy of Islam.
