Malaysian drivers, who are well known for their bad driving habits, are still at it, according to Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general Solah Mat Hassan.

traffic jams This was very much evident on Malaysian roads during the "balik kampung" and "balik kerja" traffic movements in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri from Aug 12 until Tuesday.

"Most of the offences committed were overtaking at double lines, driving along the emergency lane, not wearing helmets, not wearing seatbelts, jumping red lights and using mobile phone while driving," Solah said in Kota Baru today.

He said during the period, RTD issued 4,853 summonses and seized 67 ehicles for various traffic offences.

According to him, RTD inspected 36,229 vehicles and 2,313 summonses were slapped on those who did not have valid driving licences and 1,794 summonses for expired road tax.

Solah said RTD personnel also went undercover for surveillance on 1,945 buses and that action was taken on 130 of them for various offences.

He added that 13,781 motorcyles were inspected and of the figure, 2,286 motorcyclists were issued summonses while 67 motorcycles were seized.
