Ex-PM decries DAP's anti-hopping law

Artchan: Can't ex-PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad understand, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said one is free to hop, but the individual has to relinquish the seat.

Starr: Knowing Mahathir, there is no coincidence that Umno-BN has been the sole beneficiary of such an interpretation by the Supreme Court presided by Hamid Omar, resulting in the collapse of the democratically elected governments in Sabah (1994) and Perak (2009) respectively.

Ex-Wfw: With the amassed cash from the national coffer, we all know BN has the cash to 'purchase' politicians; but since the potential frogs came on board based on the platform they have promised, then surely the voters have the right to ask them to resign and let the voters decide again.

I would prefer a law that requires the jumping frogs to resign and have a fresh re-election.

AnakPuyu: The spin doctor is at work again. The anti-hopping law is to protect the freedom and choice of the voters, not the greedy politicians.

A politician is free to hop whichever way he prefers, that is his freedom. But if the ‘katak' politician thinks that he is the ultimate choice of the voters irrespective of his political leaning, then vacate his seat and get a fresh mandate from the voters.

The good doctor is spinning to confuse the public. He was very good at this, and still is.

Anonymous #19098644: The issue is that no one can stop another person from joining another party. However, if he was elected the people, he needs to get a fresh mandate from the constituents.

This is standard practice in places like India, the world's largest democracy. Obviously, BN is worried they will lose and they can't buy MPs to form government at the next election.

Fair Play: The onslaught by Umno leaders, past and present is very insightful.

First, an anti-hopping law might put an end to their hegemony. Second, and more startling, Umno is really afraid of Pakatan Rakyat.

Bamboo: Another wayward ethic advocated by this ex-PM. He has created ‘Umno Baruism', whose core value is to worship money.

Otherwise, how would one explain the phenomena of making money by any means, like through inflated government contracts, bribes, getting easy money through approved permits and taxi permits issued to their cronies?

Onyourtoes: The discourse on party-hopping has become depraved because there is no decency and morality left. This statement comes from someone we had once considered the statesman of this country.

Podeh: Without an anti-hopping law, politics in Malaysia has been attracting too many crooks who have no principles when millions are offered for them to jump; and usually it's Umno-BN which has that kind of money to offer these frogs. There must be some way to practise gentlemanly politics.

May: There is not a single moral fibre in Mahathir. All he does is say stupid things and thinks that others will find him credible. He has neither intellect nor courage.

He is always preying on the insecurities of others. I hate to say this, but he's beyond redemption. Don't pay him any attention.

Gov't scratching head over six Merdeka Day logos

Linda Low Boon Ping : Well, well, so much for a firm and decisive government. A week from National Day and they can't even decide on the logo.

Megabigblur: And in this state of chaos and vacillation, they're whacking the Pakatan Rakyat states for having different Merdeka themes?

States can do different things, that's the point of federalism, but the federal government had better pull itself together.

Odin: Malaysia has not been independent for 55 years, you imbeciles. It is Malaya that has. Sabah and Sarawak became independent of Britain much later. I shan't say when.

You go and do a bit of research as you are supposed to be the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry.

Tell the Truth: Instead of ruling the country these goons are wasting public money to promote their stupid political agenda, using taxpayers' money. They deserved to be sacked and be kicked out of government at GE13.

Podeh: Just take out the ‘1' and the ‘Janji Ditepati' and any of the Merdeka Day logos will do fine and do us proud.
