The Malay rights group Perkasa today lodged a police report over the text of the recent Aidilfitri sermon delivered in Kelantan mosques which it claimed contained seditious elements that could disunite the people.

Kelantan Perkasa secretary-general Sharif Mahmood made the report at the Kota Baru police station at 3 pm, asking the police to act against those who had distributed the text in defiance of the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) and the sultan of Kelantan.

“Such a thing should not have happened in Kelantan with the presence of MAIK handling Islamic affairs. The sermon should not have been issued by some other body,” he told reporters after making the police report.

Newspapers reported today that several non-governmental organisations urged the PAS-led Kelantan government to act against mosque officials who had read out the Aidilfitri sermon.
