The feasibility study for line 2 and 3 of the MRT Klang Valley project will be completed by next year.

Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) chairperson Syed Hamid Albar said the lines were slated for completion by 2020 and would provide connectivity within the Kuala Lumpur area.

“By 2020, the share of public transport by MRT will be pushed to 50 percent and other forms of transport such as buses and taxis the other 50 percent,” he told a media briefing on Rail Asia 2013 Exhibition and Conference, which will be hosted and co-organised next year by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).

MRT Corp announced earlier this month that the country’s biggest infrastructure project - Sungai Buloh-Kajang Mass Rapid Transit Line - was on schedule and the project had moved from preparatory work to active construction phase

The deadline for phase one operations of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line 1 that runs from Sungai Buloh to Semantan is on December 2016.

The phase two from Semantan to Kajang will be operational in July 2017.

Meanwhile, MRT Corp director (stakeholders/land) Haris Fadzilah Hassan said to date about RM16 billion worth of packages have been awarded for the mass rail transit project.

“Total cost of the whole project will be determined by year-end," he said.

On financing, Haris said Danainfra Nasional Bhd, under the Finance Ministry, would be raising funds for the MRT project.

“We’re committed to strict standards, we’ve to ensure that global standards are met in the MRT project,” he added.
