It appears that vandalism on the political campaign trail has now spread to the BN camp.

Today, Penang BN Youth lamented that the coalition’s 'war truck' had been smeared with red paint on its front bumper.

State BN Youth chief Oh Tong Keong expressed “sadness” that the vehicle had been vandalised even though it was parked inside the compound of the state Gerakan headquarters in Jalan Macalister.

He added that the driver of the truck discovered the damage at about 7am this morning.

“We do not blame anyone but this is not Malaysian culture. We hope this does not happen again,” Oh told reporters at a press conference in Jalan Zainal Abidin.

The BN Youth wing will be lodging a police report at Jalan Pattani this afternoon.

NONE On Tuesday, a group  of hawkers - claiming to be victimised traders deprived of licences to ply their trade along Padang Kota Lama - stormed DAP’s Hari Raya do in Jalan Pattani, resulting in a state official’s car being vandalised.

The truck, which is currently parked along Jalan Zainal Abidin, blared loud western music before the press conference, giving a carnival-like atmosphere.

When asked about the loud music - as loudhailers were banned at the Speakers Square at the Esplanade - Oh said that the truck was located outside a field, so the ban does not apply.

He added that the wing had also informed the police and Special Branch officers that it would be using the truck for political talks (ceramah).

“We also pay our parking tickets. Incidents of vandalism on our property have never happened before. This is the first time our vehicle has become a victim since 2008,” added Oh.

Guan Eng not spared

In a related development, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was not spared the acts of vandalism, either.

NONE A billboard carrying the images of Lim and several other Pakatan Rakyat leaders - Deputy Chief Minister I Mansor Othman, Gelugor MP Karpal Singh and Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer along Udini Circle (a familiar route from Green Lane leading to Penang bridge) was attacked today.

However, it was only Lim’s face on the huge billboard which was defaced by red paint.
