The tender for the construction of the Langat 2 water treatment plant in Selangor will be called soon, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.  

He said the federal government would go ahead with the project for the sake of the people of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya despite the PKR-led Selangor government not having approved the development order for the plant.  

The decision to do so was made by the Special Cabinet Committee on the Selangor Water Issue chaired by him, he added.

"We cannot delay any longer. With or without the approval (of the development order), we will go ahead for the sake of the people of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

"We have to adhere to a certain schedule. If we postpone (the construction) due to neglect by the Selangor government, the people will question us," he told reporters after opening the Pagoh Umno Division's Wanita Umno, Umno Youth and Puteri Umno delegates meetings at the Pagoh Sports Complex.

Muhyiddin said the Selangor government should act rationally based on the considerations of the people and not based on emotions or politics.   

Asked about the reported intention of several residents in Selangor wanting to sue the state government for having been denied the 20 cubic metres of free water per month due to their using bulk meters, Muhyiddin said it was the people's right to demand what was promised them.

It was evident that the people of Selangor were disappointed with the state government which had apparently failed to fulfil the opposition pact's promise, he said.
