Development activities around Tasik Chini are under control and no encroachment has occurred in the area, according to Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob.

NONE He said he went down to check on the situation in the lake area himself last week. The Tasik Chini area was gazetted as a Tourism Park in 1989.

“I saw that the water was still clean and not dirty as claimed by some quarters and the situation seemed to be under control.

“As it is, the development around the lake area undertaken by government agencies like Risda and Felcra is only allowed in the gazetted area,” he told reporters at the Pelangai state constituency Aidilfitri celebration held at SMK Pelangai in Bentong yesterday.

Adnan, who is also Pelangai assemblyperson, said the state government would not approve applications for development close to the lake.

He said during his recent visit to the lake area, he also met with the Orang Asli community there.

“They told me their worry over the future of the lake, but I said the state government was even more worried including over their confusion about the situation.”

Adnan said he welcomed views and suggestions from the local residents about the lake.
