The police have again summoned four individuals to have their statements recorded in relation to Himpunan Hijau Raub, the second time within one week after the rally was held on Sept 2.

NONE According to a statement issued by the ad hoc Ban Cyanide Action Committee (BCAC), police summoned BCAC chairperson Wong Kim Hoong, vice-chairperson Sherly Hue, secretary Chong Pui Har and an unnamed rally participant to give statements yesterday.

Wong had already given his statement on Sept 4, together with another vice-chairperson Tengku Shahadan Tengku Jaafar and M Raju, the aide to DAP's Tras assemblyperson Chong Siew Onn.

According to BCAC, Hue, Chong and the participant were questioned about the rally but Wong was quizzed on the backgrounds of the committee members.

The committee expressed its disgruntlement that the police called them at 11am and demanded they be present at the police station at noon, failing which arrest warrants would be issued against them.

'We do not have a political agenda'

"Did we commit a criminal offence? Members of the committee are all law-abiding citizens. We do not have a political agenda, we just want to have a peaceful life without corruption and crime. We cannot migrate to Australia, so why threaten us with arrest warrants?

"After the rally, the police announced that the rally was peaceful and there was no untoward incident. So, why investigate it now?" BCAC asked in the statement.

It said all 15,000 rally participants came by themselves to fight for their fundamental rights, the environment and for the next generation.

"However the struggle has been facing oppression throughout these years. Now we were summoned by the police twice in one week. Such injustice is like rubbing salt into the wound.

"Although the committee lacks manpower and financial resources, we will continue to fight the giants for the survival of all!" reads the statement.

The committee has launched a 'RM10 to save Raub' fundraising campaign to collect RM100,000 from the public for its legal and research costs.

BCAC reiterated that no agent or individual has been appointed to raise funds for the committee.
