The Election Commission (EC) has no problem if Pakatan Rakyat wants to hold Selangor state election separately from the BN on grounds that the electoral roll is yet to be cleaned up.

NONE EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told Sinar Harian that the commission cannot stop the move as this is allowed by law.

"The election law allows separate elections, but if they want to continue (with their plan), they can only do it for the state elections," Aziz is quoted as saying in the Malay daily's online version.

The Pakatan coalition decided today that election to the Selangor legislative assembly would be conducted separately from the general election, citing unresolved problems with the state electoral roll that it said included thousands of dubious voters.

However Abdul Aziz reminded Pakatan that it would incur expenses of another RM50 million should the state election be held separately.
