Umno Youth has denounced the controversial film ‘Innocence of Muslims’ by Sam Bacile, which is deemed as derogatory and an incorrect depiction and portrayal of Prophet Muhammad's life and teachings as well as his companions.

NONE The movement's chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the anger felt by Muslims across the country stems from the insensitivity of the producers felling on Muslims while they promote freedom of expression.

“As a Muslim who love the Prophet, we would like to reiterate and condemn such portrayals. We urge the American authorities to take the appropriate action on the film's producers as it is clearly a wild provocation, rude and would affect ties and religious tolerance,” he said in a statement on his blog and Facebook page.

The fictitious film had resulted in widespread protest in the Middle East, where there has been widespread protest in Egypt and Libya.

The United States ambassador Christopher Stevens was apparently killed in a mob attack at the embassy in Libya.

NONE PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (right) also issued a statement today, calling on the US government to take serious action over the provocation of religious hatred created by the movie.

He said the Islamic party respects freedom of expression but it must be based on responsibility.

“This attempt by certain extremists to create hatred is retrograde and definitely does not contribute to a more peaceful world. It only causes a negative chain of impacts that do not benefit anyone,” Hadi said.

Nevertheless, Hadi expressed his condolences to the family of Stevens.

“PAS also urges the governments of all Muslim countries in the world especially the Malaysian government to protect and ensure the safety of diplomats and diplomatic staff who are on duty in their countries.

“I would like to stress that Islam gives high recognition to their presence and it is a must for Muslim countries to protect their safety, which is part of the responsibility of the hosting countries,” he added.
