Several Muslim groups in Penang are calling on DAP to sack its Perak chairperson Ngeh Koo Ham for questioning protests by Muslims against the film, ‘Innocence of Muslims’, which insults Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

NONE The groups’ representative Salleh Ismail who is also the chairperson of Persatuan Mukabuku Pulau Pinang, said DAP which championed democracy should take stern action against their leader (Ngeh, right ) for mocking another religion.

"We are at Dataran Pidato (speakers' corner), here (Padang Kota), today to condemn his (Ngeh's) action which is insensitive to Islam by belittling us (Muslims). Ngeh should step down from his political post for his action.

"All the NGOs here today also urge Lim Guan Eng, as the DAP secretary-general, to take stern action against Ngeh as his action is unacceptable to Muslims," he told reporters after holding a peaceful demonstration at the speakers' corner.

More than 300 people carrying banners and posters bearing Ngeh's picture, gathered to protest his questioning, through his tweet last week, whether Muslims were spending too much time and energy protesting against the film.

Among the groups involved in the peaceful demonstration were Pertubuhan Dakwah dan Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida), Persatuan Al-Ehsan, Persatuan Melayu Tanjung and  Pertiga.

Ngeh: No second tweet

Meanwhile Ngeh, who had apologised for his tweet has denied making another provocative tweet.

"I didn't tweet after apologising. It was my old tweet which he (Zambry Abdul Kadir) recycled," he told reporters after opening Perak DAP annual convention in Ipoh today.

NONE On Friday, Zambry slammed Ngeh for criticising BN and Umno after apologising for the 'Innocence of Muslims' tweet.

The day before, Ngeh tweeted, "No hope for Umno. Their best brains Zambry & Khairy so low std. People who read my tweet will have only disdain for them."

The Perak DAP chairperson claimed that the Perak menteri besar was making his tweet an issue.     -

Asked about the resignation of DAP members in Taman Bintang, Pantai Remis yesterday, he claimed that many of them were not party members.

"Only a handful were DAP members who did not renew membership cards and did not join activities."

He added that they were ordinary members and would not impact the party.

Yesterday, 20 DAP members in Taman Bintang quit and expressed support for BN as the party did not deliver its promises.
