Internal Security Act detainee Mustawan Ahbab of Indonesia was released on Sept 25 and repatriated to his home country the same night, the Anti-ISA Movement (GMI) has announced.

NONE GMI chairperson Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said Mustawan, who was arrested under the ISA for alleged involvement in the Jemaah Santi Melayu group in October 2010, arrived in Jakarta the next day.

This leaves 29 detainees in the Kamunting detention camp, near Taiping in Perak, of whom 17 are foreign nationals.

Mustawan, who held a Malaysian permanent residency and was working as a marketing executive at time of his arrest, was part of the group that held a hunger strike demand their freedom.

"GMI reiterates our demand that the government, particularly the home minister, immediately releases the 29 other detainees and not use them as a political weapon by releasing them selectively," Syed Ibrahim said in a statement.

The Internal Security Act has been replaced with the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, which came into force on July 31, 2012. Despite this, the ISA detainees can continue to be held at the discretion of the home minister.
