your say Onyourtoes: If we want to talk about "hardening" of abuse of power and flaunting of one's wealth, this is the best of examples.

These people have no fear of backlash from the rakyat who are struggling in an increasingly difficult economic environment. They wouldn't give two hoots to the possibility of conflict of interest and abuse of public fund and facilities.

They know even if they have committed all these abuses, there is not a damn thing the rakyat, the opposition and the watchdog agencies can do about it.

Truth Unfold: These leaders couldn't be bothered because they are above the law and protected. They are corrupted from top to bottom, from federal to the states.

They will even sell their mothers if the need arises because their moral values and upbringing is such as they have tasted everything free without spending a penny.

It doesn't matter to them whose money it is as long as they can spend lavishly. If it should not be billed to the state government or the CM, then who should it be billed to? This is public funds, who should account for it?

Malacca CM Mohd Ali Rustam is no greenhorn in the game of politics and he should have known better.

How can he agree to the decision of getting the state agency to sponsor his son's wedding; knowing well he would be exposed?

It is certainly not at this point of time when the general election is around the corner. It is a political suicide. But then again, he known to be arrogant and brusque.

During the Malacca People's Progressive Party (PPP) annual general assembly in October 2007, PPP members were left reeling after receiving a political blow from Umno's third most powerful leader.

He also repeatedly stressed that PPP could leave the BN fold if it was unhappy because the party requested for more seats to contest.

"He came to our house, seemingly with the intention to humiliate us," said a PPP source who attended the event.

Eyewitnesses reported that PPP president M Kayveas maintained his composure throughout the hour-long speech and was seen vigorously taking down notes.

Such ostentatious spending for his son's wedding may lead to the fall of the state. Selangor fell to the opposition control in the last GE12, partly due to the majestic home Klang Umno warlord Zakaria Mat Deros built. The house was infamously named ‘Zakaria Palace'.

Jedi_Who: BN is fighting minimum wages for the poor and illiterate and Ali Rustam, though overpaid, is living off the rakyat.

The whole lot of them, including those authorising such transactions, should be sacked. What kind of auditors do we have, who can't even differentiate personal and government expenses?

Telestai!: Didn't the special secretary to the chief minister said that the caterers offered their services free of charge? By my reckoning, the function would have cost no less than RM2 million.

The maths is simple. For catering, with RM10 per head and 130,000 guests, it will cost RM1.3 million. For VIP catering, add another RM300,000. Top that up with RM400,000 for logistics, decorations, bridal costume and entertainment.

The question is - who foot the bill? With the chief minister's salary, he couldn't afford it. Even if he were to save RM10,000 a month, it will take him almost 20 years - practically from the day his child entered kindergarten.

Hot Khong: Can Ali Rustam be that stupid? I mean, GE13 is almost upon the country and Umno-BN has been accused incessantly of being corrupt, so it would be just about the dumbest thing for the Malacca CM to get state agencies to fund his son's wedding.

I'd like to believe that he isn't that stupid, but then again, Umno leaders think that they are almost deities...

Fair&Just: The is abuse of one's position and misappropriation of humanpower and material. If this is not corruption, what is?

Perhaps all those people in government are so used to abusing their position and misusing government property and humanpower for personal purposes that all these malpractices have become a norm for them.

Senior Citizen: I am shocked and astounded and even brain numbed. Imagine a CM using the state's money for his own son's wedding.

Either he is broke and has no money for the wedding or he just wanted to show off how powerful he is as chief minister. He just wanted to derive the sadistic pleasure of stealing the state's funds for his own thrills. What a shame.

This leader should be dragged out of his office and be paraded in the streets of Malacca as a cheat, with a banner on his shirt saying ‘public thief'.
