CM: Mega kenduri funded by guests and sponsors
Guests' contribution and commercial sponsorship were the main contributors to son's record-breaking wedding feast last Sunday, said Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam.
Guests' contribution and commercial sponsorship were the main contributors to son's record-breaking wedding feast last Sunday, said Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam.
The Chinese daily
Sin Chew Daily
today, quoted Mohd Ali as saying that the wedding guests had shelled out varying amounts from RM1 to RM200 each which he will use to fund the 'mega kenduri'.
"Everyone questioned where did I get the money from (to fund the wedding)? Of course it came from guests' contribution! Could I afford it?"
"It is like attending a dinner organised by a temple, you have to pay for the dinner coupon, it can't be free right?" he said while attending an event in a Chinese temple on Wednesday.
Mohd Ali elaborated that some of the food and beverages were sponsored by private companies as wedding gifts as well to gain publicity.
The dinner took place at Dewan Tun Ali in Bukit Katil and the host of people it attracted included Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, several cabinet ministers and a number of other VIPs.
Diva Siti Nurhaliza performed at the event.
Malaysia Book of Records certified the wedding feast as having drawn the
biggest crowd
ever recorded at a wedding, outdoing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's Aidilfitri open house this year, which reportedly 100,000 people attended.
Several opposition leaders have urged Mohd Ali ( left) to disclose the cost of the grandiose event.
PAS veep Mahfuz Omar has also furnished a purported leaked document from the Malacca State Development Corporation (PKNM) allegedly revealing that state agencies had sponsored the wedding ceremony.
