Penang Barisan Nasional has strongly condemned the act of vandalism act on the private vehicle belonging to a state Gerakan Youth leader, saying that quarters responsible for the violence are those not happy with his expose on the state government's wrongdoings.

NONE State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow ( right ) said that the spraying of red paint on the vehicle of state Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong was meant to instill fear in the hearts of members to prevent them from carrying out their political duty.

"But I want to warn the culprits that we are not afraid of their acts. The BN will stand by and protect those who are in the forefront to do their duty for the sake of the rakyat," Teng said at a press conference today.

"The violent act is related to the state BN Youth's expose on Taman Manggis because Oh has no problem with his business or private life," Teng added.

'Don't put words into my mouth'

When asked if he was directly blaming DAP or Pakatan Rakyat for causing the damages to Oh's car, which includes a broken windscreen, Teng shot back "don't put words into my mouth".

He urged all similar acts of violence to cease, saying such acts were not prevalent during the time when BN was at its strongest in Penang, prior to 2008.

Since 2008, DAP headquarters had been smeared with red paint twice, and four of its assemblyperson's service centre, including the one run by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, suffered a similar fate.

NONE This was followed by eggs and coffee ( left ) being thrown at the former service centre of Penang Gerakan chief Dr Teng Hock Nan.

Recently, the official state vehicle of Lim's political secretary and Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik, was also allegedly vandalised by a group claiming to represent hawkers, when they stormed a Hari open house last month, to demand for their rights.

Following this, state BN's war truck was splashed with red paint when it was parked at the Gerakan's headquarters in Jalan Macalister.

Stop the violent culture

Meanwhile, Teng said the violent acts against BN does not reflect the political culture of Malaysians, which seem to have changed since Pakatan took over the state in 2008.

NONE He added that the BN wholly supported Oh ( left ), also Penang BN Youth chief, in his effort to reveal the state's mishandling of the Taman Manggis land.

The 1.1 acre of land along Jalan Zainal Abidin was supposed to be used for public housing, alleged the BN, but was then sold to a private developer to build a medical centre.

The state BN had since paid 10 percent of the payment to acquire the land for RM450 per sq ft from the state government to develop a public housing scheme.

Teng also said that BN had never encouraged their members to be involved in verbal welfare, which includes insulting and denigrating one's opponent.

He said this must be stop for it does not bode well for the coming generation and their choices of future leaders of the country.

Teng was responding when told that a local Gerakan leader Albert Tan had quipped that the violence was " self-inflicted " when the DAP's headquarters in Jalan Rangoon was also smeared with red paint last month.

"We don't think of making such stupid statements. We do not endorse such comments either," he said.
