Kampung Kerinchi night market to be relocated

The Kampung Kerinchi night market will be relocated to a new site in the vicinity of Vista Angkasa Apartment, said Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
He said the new site, which is adjacent to the University LRT station, is not far from the old site in the vicinity of Kampung Kerinchi flats, which had been closed for redevelopment.
“Vista Angkasa has agreed for the site to be used as a night market on Monday and Friday as long as traders comply with hygienic and safety conditions,” he told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said the new site, which was under the jurisdiction of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), could accommodate 30 traders and preference would be given to traders from Lembah Pantai and the capital.
Raja Nong Chik said DBKL needed one week from today to prepare the new site and select the traders.
On the opposition claim that the government failed to relocate the Kampung Kerinchi night market, he said it was a ploy to discredit the government in the run up to the 13th general election.
