Solid Waste management company, Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd (ENVI) has incurred losses amounting to RM330,000 in nine months after 200 garbage containers were either stolen or vandalised.

ENVI chief executive officer Mhd Saiful Anuar Zainal said in a statement in Alor Setar today that most of the 1,110-litre waste containers called ‘leach bins’ had been stolen.

He said due to this, there were delays in collection of waste since workers had to pick up the garbage manually before transferring into garbage trucks.

“The workers are also threatened by diseases such as tetanus, typhoid, cholera, dysentery and diarrhea,” he said.

Mhd Saiful said after replacing the 200 garbage containers last week, the company found 43 of them vandalised.

He said two police reports were lodged and urged residents to provide relevant information of such vandalism by contacting its Corporate Communication Department through the hotline number 04-7711320.

Mhd Saiful said rewards would be given to those who reported garbage container vandalism by providing pictures of such action to the authorities.

ENVI has provided 80,000 wheel garbage containers to housing areas and shop lots and 700 centralised waste containers in Alor Star city to accommodate garbage disposal.
