Only one out of 377 land owners affected by the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project in Pengerang has returned the compensation form to reject the compensation offer from the Johor government, an official has said.

The Johor economic planning unit (Upen) director Elias Hasran told Berita Harian that the total compensation for individuals involved has been deposited to the court.

He said 101 land owners or stakeholders have completely accepted the compensation offer while 275 have accepted the offer with the option to appeal to the court for higher compensation.

“Nevertheless only 39 of them have filed appeal in court through the land office to get higher valuation in accordance with the Land Acquisition Act 1960,” he was quoted by the Malay daily as saying.
