MCA asks Bar Council to study hudud implementation

vox populi small thumbnail YF: MCA, why ask the Bar Council to study hudud? Go ask your boss Umno, since your boss keeps saying they are champions of Islam and hudud.

As usual, MCA doesn't seem to know who is running the country. This is a silly suggestion that has nothing to do with the Bar Council but everything to do with the ‘Bully Council' called Umno.

Even if DAP supports PAS, they still cannot get two-thirds majority to change the constitution to make way for hudud. MCA knows very well without Umno support, hudud cannot be implemented in Malaysia.

MCA threatens the Chinese with hudud, while Umno threatens the Malays with the Christian state - this is all a dirty game by BN.

Anonymous #19098644: The MCA has no locus standi (legal standing) to even make this request.

Firstly, as part of the Terengganu BN government that gazetted the hudud laws of Terengganu, which was passed by all state assemblypersons, both PAS and Umno, MCA has directly supported hudud.

Secondly, the MCA through its Terengganu exco member has failed to move any motion to repeal the Act even though the party demonises hudud for political reasons.

Thirdly, it is part and parcel of the BN coalition whose members have openly called for hudud to be implemented for all races and religions versus PAS, which is saying it is for Muslims only.

And yet MCA continues to sleep with Umno.

Before the Bar Council does this study, it should demand that MCA moves a motion to repeal the hudud laws in Terengganu.

JimmyKL: Both religious and vernacular schools should exist as long as each community feels they need it, but it should not be financed and supported by taxpayers' money.

If each community feel that both religious and vernacular schools are important for the preservation of their identity and culture, let them build, organise and manage them with their own money but not taxpayers' money.

Anonymous_5fb: If we blame religious and vernacular schools as the cause of failure in national integration, then, we are in fact falling into the Umno-BN government's trap. They, Umno-BN, are the root causes for this failure.

No one ever wants to opt out of national schools if such schools lived up to the roles they should play.

JBGUY: I support the right of students receiving an Islamic education, just as I support the right of students receiving education in the English medium.

For now, only the rich or children of ministers are given such privilege. As a parent, I want my children to have a bright future as well. Will the government consider the wishes of its rakyat?

Anonymous #19098644: The Pakatan Rakyat government in Penang has consistently supported all sekolah agama (religious schools), mission schools, Indian schools and Chinese schools without them having to beg.

Why is it that we have them? First, the people want them for if not, they cannot exist. The Chinese independent schools have been surviving on the support of the community all these years in spite of the community paying 80 percent of all taxes.

Secondly, the failure of our national education system under the BN. Not one university is in the top 400 while little Singapore has two in the top 100.

Thirdly, the polarisation of the national schools where due to the instigation of BN, the teachers and headmasters have in some cases been discriminating against the non-bumiputeras by hurling derogatory insults.

The failed polices of the BN are the cause of this divided nation and not vernacular schools. Even Malays are increasingly sending their children to the Chinese schools, you ask yourselves why.

Enlightened: Why does Pusat Anak Permata Negara (Permata) need such a huge allocation? Give a big chunk of that to these schools.

RKR: Muslims or Malays must realise that being bumiputeras does not mean that special treatment is accorded to them automatically. They have to be Umnoputras more than bumiputeras.
