Pahang MB wants MACC to probe illegal logging

Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to carry out an investigation into widespread illegal logging in Cameron Highlands.
He said the state government took a serious view of the matter, and if not curbed in time, the forest could disappear due to the irresponsible act.
"I hope the MACC will investigate and take firm action as it allegedly involves an abuse of power," he told reporters during his visit to the Bukit Mendi Felda Scheme in Bera yesterday.
He was commenting on reports earlier this week on rampant land clearing activities in various areas in Cameron Highlands, including Blue Valley and Mensun Valley.
Adnan said following the reports, the state government decided to cease the approval of temporary occupation licence (TOL) in Cameron Highlands to curtail illegal land clearing and logging activities.
The menteri besar said he had also asked the Cameron Highlands District and Land Office to furnish him with reports on the illegal logging situation and measures to overcome the problem.
