Several pieces of ceiling in front of the ticket counter at Penang International Airport (PIA) collapsed, causing hurt to an employee this morning.

NONE PIA senior manager Mohd Arif Jaafar said in the incident at 8.30am, a 26-year-old woman manning the customer service counter was rushed to hospital after the ceiling suddenly fell onto her head.

“She is in stable condition after being treated as an outpatient at Penang Hospital,” he said when contacted in George Town today.

Arif said the collapse might be caused by continuous heavy rainfall since 4am after the ceiling could not cope with the high volume of water.

The incident did not affect passenger flights and the management had carried out repair work on the affected area.
