The Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth wing is challenging the state government to proceed with the new conditions imposed on the BN for the purchase of a piece of land in Taman Manggis, to any party who are interested to purchase the land in the future.

NONE Its chief, Oh Tong Keong ( right ), said the state government had set new conditions on the BN compelling it to make full payment on the balance of RM22 million within 30 days from the date of purchase of the 0.445 hectare land, on Oct 3.

“We have received a letter from the state government dated Oct 5, with new conditions after we purchased the land. However, we want to follow the previous rules and regulations.

“If the state goverment insists on setting new conditions to BN, the same conditions must also apply to other parties who want to purchase the land, to show that the state government is fair and not deliberately troubling the BN and the poor in the state,” he said in a media conference in George Town today.

On Oct 3, Penang BN had paid earnest money of RM224,073 in cash or one percent of the sale price of RM22,407,300 to the state government as a sign of agreement to the state government’s offer.

The Taman Manggis land issue arose as a result of the Phase Two of the proposed People’s Housing Project (PPR) site being sold by the DAP government to a private company for the development of a 19-storey hotel, a six-storey private hospital and a five-storey car park.

Oh also slammed Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s arrogant attitude for claiming that the sale and purchase transaction on the land owned by the state government, did not require any discussion or approval by the state executive council or exco meeting.
