Audit dept: PWD did not moot link for RM20mil bridge
The auditor general's department has clarified that its report did not state that Sarawak's public works department had “forgot” to link a RM20 million bridge to nearby villages.
The Auditor-General's Department has clarified that its report did not state that Sarawak's Public Works Department (PWD) had "forgotten" to link a RM20 million bridge to nearby villages.
In a letter to Malaysiakini , the Auditor-General's Department clarified that its report merely stated that the PWD "did not propose" the link road.

report last Friday on the Auditor-General Report 2011's evaluation of the Batang Strap Bridge project in Sri Aman, which
connects to nowhere

Pekan Pantu is the nearest village but it would require the construction of a road, no less than 10km in length, to connect the village to the bridge.
The audit report said that as a result, what is left is a bridge leading to some shrubs on the other side of the river, thus “failing to stimulate the local economy”.
Malaysiakini's report had interpreted the report to mean that the link to nearby villages were “forgotten”, but the auditor-general's department disagrees with this wording.
