Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd the RM855 million trackworks package for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line.

The company has also awarded Apex Communication Sdn Bhd-LG CNS Consortium the telecommunication work package worth RM319.9 million.

MRT Corp said in a statement the decision was made following a meeting of its One Stop Procurement Committee chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today.

"Both companies have demonstrated their capability in the respective fields.

"I am confident they will be able to deliver, and this augurs well for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line, which has been in full construction mode since August," MRT Corp chief executive officer Azhar Abdul Hamid said.

Azhar said with the award, 50 of the 85 works packages with a total value of RM19.7 billion have now been awarded, with the rest by to be done by the end of the year.
