The Selangor government never gave permission to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to lay high voltage cables across several areas in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur which come under the state government’s jurisdiction, said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said he had instructed the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) not to give any approval to TNB (for the cable laying project) after receiving objections from the local residents in 2010.

“However, TNB recently proceeded with the project in Cheras in areas which come under the administration of Kuala Lumpur City Hall particularly in Taman Connaught, whereas on the Selangor side, no work is is being done,” he said in a statement in Shah Alam today.

He was responding to a claim by MCA that he had given approval for the project when chairing a meeting of the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting.

 Abdul Khalid, who is also the MP for Bandar Tun Razak, suggested that TNB and DBKL meet the residents involved to resolve the matter amicably.

According to media reports, the project was objected to by some 500 residents living in Cheras Hartamas and Taman Bukit Segar Jaya.
