The Malay Economic Congress has passed a resolution calling for the establishment of Malay-managed audit firms to audit government agencies and companies.

This was among the 18 resolutions which were passed by about 500 participants during the two-day forum in Kuala Lumpur which ended yesterday.

The event was organised by the Malay Chambers of Commerce of Malaysia (DPMM).

The resolutions would be submitted to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak soon. The forum saw former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the guest of honour during the closing of the event yesterday.

Other resolutions includes a proposal urging the Finance Ministry to provide contracts for projects below RM100 million directly to Malays. Such projects would then be monitored by DPMM.

According to Berita Harian , the congress had also passed a resolution urging the government to take a tougher stance on graft.

“The congress also resolved that corruption, abuse of power, cronyism and nepotism which are among the reasons for problems with the ‘Malay economy’, needs to be handled immediately,” read the report.

Another resolution urged the federal government to ensure that GLCs focussed on the ‘Malay agenda’ and not compete with Malay entrepreneurs and instead support them in terms of capital and expanding their export capabilities.
